When Is The First Day of Spring 2011? | Vernal Equinox

The first day of the vernal or spring equinox is March 20, 2011. An equinox occurs twice a year, in March and September, when the Sun passes directly above the central Ecuador, the earth is not tilted and facing the sun. The length of day and night may not be equal on the spring equinox. If the sun was just a small point of light and the Earth had no atmosphere, then the day and night would be exactly 12 hours in a day of spring equinox.

The National Weather Service has quantified the winter because it keeps the climate record meteorological season, which means for forecast that winter is over Feb. 28.

The day of the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere, a person at the North Pole could see the sun touching the horizon, beginning six months without interruption.

Since Friday's record heat, a cold Canadian high pressure system has moved its way into the area. Temperatures fell to more than 30 degrees in some cases. LaGuardia Airport hit 75, Central Park topped out at 77, JFK and Newark reached 79 was the hot spot area with a whopping 80 degrees. High temperatures on Monday, however, will be in the 30 and 40.
