Triangle Shirtwaist Fire | Remembering 100th anniversary of American history

This Wednesday is marks 100th anniversary of American history when the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. One hundred years ago, the fire and remains us of the building in New York City's Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. Within 28 minutes, the factory was burned and 146 people died, mostly immigrant women and young children. Some fell to death by jumping on the windows, others have been killed down the empty elevator shaft.

The fire drove through 8th floor, powered by a battery of gauze, linen hung on wires from the ceiling and the oil stored outdoors to keep the machines running. 9th and 10th floors spread, sending panicked workers running two fire escapes. Two decades after the fire of the Triangle, the city building code was revised to require more realizations of tall buildings.
