Potassium Iodide Pills | Iodine Radiation

Potassium iodine tablets sell like hotcakes in British Columbia, after the monster quake on Friday damaged nuclear reactors in Japan, according to the sellers Tuesday. Iodine pills are designed to fight against radiation, and they are flying off the shelves at local pharmacies on fear of a possible collapse of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Japan.

When the leaks of radiation damage inflicted by the earthquake, Japan, and apparently the possibility that things could go wrong, even worse, Arizona buyers are stocking up for a limited number of tablets of potassium iodide. The pills are people exposed to radiation to prevent thyroid cancer.

Dr. Claudia Jonah explained "Many of these items are made from things extracted from shellfish and some people are just allergic to iodine in its purest form, so to expose yourself to something that is not treating a condition you have, and that for many people they are allergic to those things, you don't want to pose a solution that's worse than the existing problem."
