Joseph Brooks was found dead on Sunday of an apparent suicide

Joseph Brooks, the Oscar-winning songwriter apparently suicide in his New York City apartment, police said. The 'You Light Up My Life' songwriter, 73 was found dead on Sunday.

Mr. Brooks was arrested on charges of sexual assault, which came to a total of a dozen women, usually an aspiring actress, who had drawn in his flat in recent years, fiction that was casting the role, prosecutors said. Last December, his son, Christopher Brooks, was charged after his former girlfriend was found strangled in a bathtub at the SoHo House, a private Manhattan club.

Mr. Brooks was found by a friend who was having lunch with him at his home, told NYPD to CNN. It was near a helium tank with a hose attached to a dry cleaning bag and a towel around the head and neck, police said. He left a suicide note.
