Tampa Bay Rays Manny Ramirez Retires

Manny Ramirez, Tampa Bay Rays has announced his retirement after testing positive for a doping product for the third time in his career. Ramirez told Major League Baseball on Friday. He previously served 50-game suspension violation of drug policy, when it was in the Los Angeles Dodgers. The suspension is a positive test at spring training, which has now led to his retirement.

Ramirez was subjected to additional testing and a more severe sentence for another drug offense in 2009. But despite the increased risks, he has signed a one-year contract this season with the Tampa Bay Rays, and was found to have used an enhancer again later.
Ramirez is to serve the 100-game suspension if he decides he wants to play again under baseball’s drug testing program.

Ramirez was selected in the first round of the 1991 draft by the Cleveland Indians. He made his major league debut at age 21, quickly establishing a power hitter who also can hit for average. After the 2000 season he signed $ 160 million contract for eight years to the Boston Red Sox. Later, in 2003, he was confronted with the newly signing free agent David Ortiz.
