Debbie Friedman | Jewish Folk Singer Passed Away

Debbie Friedman one of American Judaism’s most beloved composers, which brought together American folk Jewish liturgical texts to create a popular form of modern Jewish music, passed away today (Jan. 9) at a hospital in Orange County, California. Friedman was born in New York died in the 50s for a few days of hospitalization according to the Washington Post.

Debbie influenced and enriched the contemporary Jewish music in a profound way. Her music has crossed generations and faith and carved a powerful legacy of authentic Jewish spirituality in everyday life.

Friedman began his career in the Vietnam War, when he was dissatisfied with the services of the synagogue. She has built in the ancient texts, contemporary melodies to make them more accessible to a wider audience, according to the Jerusalem Post. During her 35 years career, She has released over 20 albums and has performed in concerts around the world in synagogues, schools, churches and concert halls such as Carnegie Hall.
